PocketStreetmap does not seem to download maps (PocketPC version): if you are unable to see more than a small sample of Oxford Street when you run the program, there is a problem with the connection to the internet.
When you first install, your PocketPC must be in the cradle and be connected with Active Sync. You must also have a connected internet connection to register.
The streetmap slave loader is installed on the desktop so that your PocketPC can communicate with the internet when in he cradle. If there is a blue S on the taskbar, the slave loader is running. If there is no blue S, the slave loader is not running and Pocket Streetmap may not be able to search and download maps.
In order to download maps, Pocket Streetmap needs to connect to the internet. You should check the following:
- Check the Go Online option in the Options dialog in Pocket Streetmap is checked
- Stop and restart the Pocket Streetmap program on the PocketPC
- If using the desktop connection ...
- Check the desktop is connected to the internet
- Check that Active Sync is running and connected (Green Circle in taskbar)
- Check the Pocket Streetmap Slave program is running (there should be a blue S in the taskbar)
- If using a wireless/mobile connection:
- Check that Pocket Internet Explorer can connect to,display and refresh a web page
- Check that the correct dial up connection is selected in the Pocket Streetmap options dialog (to the right of the Go Online option)
PocketStreetmap does not seem to download maps (PocketPC 2002 version): if you are unable to see more than a small sample of Oxford Street when you run the program, there is a problem with the connection to the internet.
When you first install, your PocketPC must be in the cradle and be connected with Active Sync. You must also have a connected internet connection to register.
In the first instance you should follow the instructions in your user manual for setting up your internet connection (e.g. run the Compaq connection wizard on the install CD). To test if you have a suitable internet connection, you should run up Internet Explorer on your pocket PC, select view address bar if it is not visible at the top, enter a valid url e.g.http://www.amazon.co.uk and select the green enter button to the right of the address bar.
If this succeeds and you see the Amazon home page then you do have an internet connection from your pocket pc.
If this fails then you should :
- Check the settings in Active Sync on th desktop :
- Click Tools/Options.
- On the Rules tab, select Open ActiveSync when my mobile device connects.
- From the Connections list, select The Internet.
- Check the settings on your Pocket PC:
- Select start/settings/connections/connections
- Select The Internet for all options
You should then re-check the web page in Pocket Internet explorer to ensure that you now have a connection.
If this fails then a fallback may be to uninstall this version and install the Pocket PC version. This will then use the slave loader for Pocket PC internet connectivity when cradled. As both versions provide
I have downloaded some maps but no images show !
Normally this is caused by having your cache being set too small. i.e. When the cache is exceeded the oldest files you have downloaded are overwritten. To increase the size of the cache you will need to click on Menu ----- Options in PocketStreetmap
Why can I not load the maps into an external Memory card ?
If you are using version prior to 1.08 then this is not possible. You will have to download the latest version and re-install Pocket Streetmap.
Versions 1.08 and higher allow you to store maps on an external Memory Card by selecting the button with three dots (...) on it on the Pocket Streetmap options screen. Then select "slot1" or "slot2" in the Location selection.
Why does the active sync icon rotate every time I use Pocket Streetmap ?
Pocket Streetmap stores it's files under the \my documents folder. If you have elected to have Files synchronized on your active sync, then every time you download a map it will be copied back to the desktop slowing everything down.
You should either disable the Files synchronization or set the Pocket Streetmap option for the file storage to be somewhere other than under \my documents.
Can I download all of the street maps onto my Pocket PC ?
You can download a maximum of 20 Mb of data onto your Pocket Pc. This is a very large area.
Does Pocket Streetmap support the Navman or Compaq GPS jackets ?

What is the difference between the PocketPC version and the PocketPC 2002 version ?
Both versions are identical in Pocket Streetmap functionality, they differ only in the way that they connect to the internet.
The PocketPC version will try our slave loader connection first, then attempt use the local network, then try the dial up connection
The PocketPC 2002 version uses the built in connection manager in the PocketPC 2002 operating system.
A PocketPC running PocketPC 2002 operating system (most of the newer pocket pc's) can run either version of Pocket Streetmap. The PocketPC 2002 version of Pocket Streetmap can only be run on a PocketPC running PocketPC 2002 operating system.
What is the difference between the PocketPC versions and the Desktop (PC) versions?
Both versions are identical in Pocket Streetmap functionality. The desktop has a larger display ability and printing ability.
Why do I have to be connected to the Internet ?
The Streetmap application, when first installed, does not hold any map data except for a few tiles of Oxford Street. Pocket Streetmap will download data from the internet when it requires it.
If all that you can see is Oxford Street then you have not registered the application properly. ie do you have you everything connected ?
